About the Frugal Master

Susan’s Photo According to T. Harv Eker, author of the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, there are four money personality types: spenders, savers, avoiders, and monks. I’m guessing that since you are visiting this site, you are probably a saver (although of course I welcome spenders as well!). My name is Susan and I too am a saver. I grew up in a single parent household with two siblings. And although money was usually fairly tight for us, my mother was a spender. Although she always managed to pay her bills first, my mother had lots of credit card debt as well as personal debt from friends. I would always wonder when she had extra money, why she didn’t just put it towards paying off her credit card or personal debt.

I on the other hand, grew up to be a saver. I would hardly ever spend money on myself and I would always try to find a way to buy things at a discount. Over the years, I have read many books and articles and learned ways to save. Although I have to admit, I’ve learned that being a die hard saver is not necessarily healthy either. Being frugal and thrifty is one thing, but being a hoarder or miser is another. I am continuing to try to find balance in my life and not feel guilty about indulging every once in a while on myself. In fact, I enjoy going out, (movies, dinner, massages, etc.) I’ve just found ways to enjoy and pamper myself on occasion without having to pay full price for most things.

My goal with this site is to share with my fellow savers (and spenders) tips and strategies to save money and to provide resources for you so that you can spend a little money on yourself while still being fugal. There are many great resources and blogs available that discuss ways to improve one’s financial situation and I will definitely share those with you here. What I’d like to do is to share with you ideas that go beyond your typical saving tips. Thanks for reading!
